Handling Negative Engagement Survey Results: Why Transparency Wins Every Time

#feedback #journal #employeelistening #employeeretention #employeeengagement

Recently, I was having dinner with a new friend, and they asked me this question:

"What do you do when an organization gets data back from an engagement survey and it's not very good?"

And this is how I broke it down for them.

First, I told them that the worst thing they could do was hide and hoard those results.

As embarrassing as it may be or feels like an internal PR disaster, that's not the case.

Employees already know what the internal collective voice is.

So if you get bad results, you should be open-handed with them and openly communicate with your team.

Send messages like: "This is what we heard you say. These areas are clearly a priority for us to move the needle in, and we're on it. We're working on it. We need more input and feedback. And we need your help to make this happen."

That is how you slowly start to rebuild trust.

The worst thing you can do is hide and hoard those results or try to sugarcoat them.

Your employees are much more intelligent than that.

Oh! Here's a free resource/PDF download called the Feedback Journal to help you prepare for feedback conversations with your employees. ⤵️
